Brunate and Como Funicular: A Travel Guide
Seven Minutes to Brunate: The Funicular Experience
The Como–Brunate funicular is more than a means of transport — it's part of the experience of staying above the lake. For those who don't know it yet, here's a practical guide to how it works, what to expect, and how to reach the hotel once you're at the top
A History Spanning More Than a Century
Opened in 1894, the Brunate funicular is one of the most cherished pieces of historic infrastructure in the Como area. For more than a hundred years it has carried residents and visitors along the same scenic route, becoming part of the very landscape it crosses.

How It Works: Timetables, Tickets, Duration
The ride takes about seven minutes, connecting the lower station in central Como to the upper station in Brunate. Departures run frequently throughout the day, typically extending into the late evening during the summer months. Tickets are purchased directly at the station, with fares also valid for a same-day return
The View on the Way Up
As the funicular climbs, the lake's first basin gradually comes into view while Como slips slowly into the background. It's a moment many guests describe as the true beginning of their stay, even before setting foot inside the hotel.
Arriving in Brunate: How to Reach the Hotel
From the upper station, the hotel is a few minutes' walk along the village's characteristic little streets. For those arriving from Milan or Malpensa Airport, the funicular is the final stretch of a journey that's easy to plan ahead , and it's also why a stay in Brunate doesn't require a car of your own. The full story of the hotel and its spaces is told on our main page.
